EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS

About the Project |  New Project

Launched in 2025, our Employability Skills Project is an ongoing initiative that empowers people in our community, especially young adults, women, and job seekers, to gain the skills and confidence they need to succeed in today’s workforce.

With unemployment and underemployment affecting many households in Luton, the project aims to bridge the gap between potential and opportunity. We provide free training and coaching in key areas such as:

  • Information Technology (IT) and Digital Skills

  • Healthcare Support Training

  • CV Building and Interview Preparation

  • Financial Literacy and Business Development

  • Career Coaching and Personal Development

Our goal is to help participants build the practical, professional, and personal tools they need to secure employment, start businesses, or advance their careers.

HOW THE PROJECT HELPS

The Employability Skills Project provides a safe and encouraging environment where participants can learn at their own pace, develop confidence, and explore new career paths.

Through interactive workshops, one-to-one mentoring, and group coaching sessions, we help people:

  • Identify their strengths and career interests

  • Create professional CVs and cover letters

  • Prepare for interviews with confidence

  • Learn essential digital and financial skills

  • Access guidance on self-employment and small-business start-ups

Each session focuses not only on technical skills but also on character development, motivation, and resilience, ensuring that participants are fully equipped to thrive in both work and life.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Our project was shaped through ongoing conversations with local residents, youth groups, and partner organisations who expressed the need for practical, skills-based training to help people move from dependency to independence.

We collaborate with local employers, training providers, and volunteers who bring professional expertise in IT, healthcare, business, and finance. Their contribution ensures that the training remains relevant, hands-on, and empowering.

The program runs throughout the year at Watersprings Christian Centre, with flexible learning sessions, group workshops, and personalised coaching opportunities. We also provide certificates of participation and help connect participants with job openings, apprenticeships, or further training programs.

This project supports the Luton 2040 vision by promoting education, inclusion, and economic resilience in our community.
